Focusing On What Really Matters.

Since the return of the Felon-in-Chief to the Oval Office, it seems that Democrats have spent most of their time focused on the Felon’s failing physical and cognitive health, as well as his despicable behavior and outrageous statements.

Every day, we see and hear their reactions to his repeated lies about the 2020 election. His daily lies about the economy. His attacks on the Smithsonian and the Kennedy Center. His destruction of the East Wing. His plans for a Kremlin-style ballroom, as well as his Arc d’ Trump and the Washington golf course.

Certainly, these things are alarming. But they are mostly distractions – mere symptoms of the many excesses of the Trump regime.

There are far more important concerns, such as the ill-considered war with Iran, the growing oil crisis, the mass deportations of people of color, the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the West Bank, Russia’s war on Ukraine, the weakening of our military and our international standing, our relationships with allies and our trading partners, the numerous violations of our Constitution, the massive corruption of the Trump crime family and its billionaire friends, our exploding national debt and, most important, the upcoming midterm elections.

For far too long, Democratic leaders have been relatively silent about the things that truly matter. And now it seems that they are just biding their time until the new Congress is sworn in on January 3, 2027.

But there’s an old truth about not counting your chickens until they’re hatched. In fair and free elections, Democrats will almost certainly enjoy a large blue wave. But there are no guarantees that the elections will be fair and free. Indeed, they may never even happen.

For months, Trump and his fascist friends have been preparing to steal the elections. In Republican-controlled states, they have used extreme gerrymandering in an attempt to dilute Democratic votes. They have closed polling places in Democrat-leaning districts. They have tried to disrupt mail-in voting. They have tried to override state control of elections. They have tried to gain access to every state’s voting records. They have threatened to deploy ICE thugs to polling places in an effort to intimidate black and brown voters. They have threatened to prosecute poll workers. They have threatened to declare a national emergency to delay or deny the elections. There’s talk of an apparent plan for Speaker Johnson to refuse to seat newly elected Democrats. And Trump has rehired Elon Musk despite claims by Musk’s ex that he bragged about using his Starlink technology to rig the 2024 election on Trump’s behalf.

Think all of this is a Democrat-inspired fantasy? Think again.

If the Felon and his MAGAts were willing to attack the nation’s capital on January 6, 2020, with the intent of overturning the election results and hanging Mike Pence along with Democratic representatives, what’s to stop them from doing it again? Or from doing something worse? After all, those MAGA criminals have been pardoned and are undoubtedly on standby to do the Felon’s bidding again.

So, instead of focusing on the daily chaos, the hateful messages, the latest faux pas, and the latest vanity project, Democrats need to be laser-focused on protecting the midterm elections and countering every possible MAGA attack. They can’t take for granted that the midterms will see a new Congress willing to rein in this fascist regime. Democrats and independents need to vote in overwhelming numbers and be prepared to fight as if the future of our democracy depends on them.

Because it does.

Exposing Republican Falsehoods.

For generations, the Republican Party proudly proclaimed itself the party of law and order, national security, and fiscal responsibility. While that was never entirely accurate, it is exactly the opposite of the current MAGA version of the Party.

With the Felon in charge, professional law enforcement has largely been replaced with the thousands of belligerent, poorly trained and heavily armed bullies who comprise Trump’s ICEstapo. Trump’s campaign of retribution against political enemies has been substituted for justice and the rule of law. And our constitutional rights to privacy and due process have been swapped for massive surveillance and warrantless arrests.

As for national security, MAGA has decapitated our military by firing highly qualified black and female officers and blocking the promotions of many more. Other senior leaders have resigned in disgust. Trump and his regime have alienated our most reliable allies while, at the same time, embracing our most dangerous adversaries. And, perhaps even more worrying, MAGA has weakened our military readiness by depleting our stockpile of advanced weaponry during Trump’s ill-conceived war of choice with Iran.

Finally, our national debt has now surpassed $40 trillion, of which Donnie Dipsh*t is responsible for at least $11.6 trillion! And by the end of his term, that number is likely to grow by another $5 trillion – the result of the war and tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy. Meanwhile, the Felon and his cronies are padding their own bank accounts with billions in taxpayer money.

For the first time in U.S. history, our debt exceeds our GDP which will ultimately result in higher borrowing costs and mandatory budget cuts. Given the Republican Party’s long-standing distaste for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and other safety net programs, I believe the Party’s reckless spending is intentional – by burying our nation in debt, it creates an excuse to force the end of those programs while maintaining the many billions in corporate welfare and tax cuts for the ultrarich.

What Trump Has Taken From Us.

Despite his braggadocio, Trump likely wasn’t a billionaire when he regained the presidency last year. But he certainly is now.

In just the first year of the Felon’s second term in office, he and his family have enriched themselves with an astonishing $2.2 billion, most of it from taxpayers and those who invested in his unscrupulous cryptocurrency scheme. And that sum is just a fraction of what his regime has cost taxpayers through his “Big Beautiful Bill”, his war of choice, and his numerous vanity projects.

Indeed, at least $11.6 trillion of our $40 trillion national debt (29 percent) has been accumulated while Trump has been in office. And another $2 trillion increase under Biden should rightfully be attributed to Trump’s failed Covid response. Imagine how much more debt Trump can accumulate in the remaining two-and-a-half years of his term.

But taxpayer money is the least of what he and his cronies have taken from us.

  • Since the Felon recaptured the Oval Office, much of the power of Congress has been usurped by the Executive Office with help from the MAGA-controlled SCOTUS.
  • Immigrants and many American citizens have lost their right to due process – the opportunity to defend themselves in a court of law. And after the murders of American citizens by ICE, many Americans have lost their sense of personal safety.
  • So, too, have we lost our constitutional right to privacy as the result of Flock cameras and other forms of government surveillance,
  • Through Trump appointments of loyalists, our independent and ethical judiciary has been compromised.
  • Similarly, our DOJ and FBI have been politicized and charged with arresting Trump’s political enemies.
  • The constitutional freedom of the press has been compromised.
  • Likewise, our constitutional freedom of speech has been under attack as never before.
  • The leadership of our military has been decapitated and weakened.
  • Our Department of Defense has been turned into the Department of War – an act, given Trump’s war of choice against Iran, is more than symbolic.
  • The government bureau created to protect taxpayers’ personal finances – the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau – has been dismantled.
  • Our voting rights, especially those of minorities and youth, are subjected to a multi-pronged attack of gerrymandering, federal interference, intimidation, and more.
  • Many Americans have lost access to healthcare as a result of cutbacks needed to further reduce the taxes of corporations and billionaires.
  • Additionally, funding cuts to the National Institutes for Health and the Centers for Disease Control have again weakened our ability to predict and respond to future pandemics.
  • The defunding of USAID quite literally cost millions of lives in less developed nations that depended on the charity of the US. As it turned out, that was just the first attack on our international reputation. Since then, we have lost the respect of longtime allies and most of the civilized world due to the regime’s trade tariffs and lack of concern for NATO, the UN and human rights.
  • Trust is science and expertise have been lost as evidenced by our disregard for the environment, the climate crisis and looming extinction of tens of thousands of species.
  • Public funding of religious and private schools along with cuts to public schools have compromised our world class education system.
  • The Felon’s inflated ego has cost us Jackie Kennedy’s rose garden, the East Wing, the South Lawn, a tastefully decorated Oval Office, 60 cherry trees, and possibly the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
  • Trump’s racism has caused the government to rewrite history.
  • We have lost nearly 600,000 of our friends and neighbors – immigrants who have been detained and deported – most of them law abiding, hardworking people and their families.
  • Trump’s war of choice, corporate deregulation and his ill-advised tariffs have cost us affordable fuel and groceries.
  • Worst of all, a majority of our citizens have lost trust in our government and grasp of the truth given his never-ending tsunami of lies.
