He really ticked me off when he started to cave on the public option. Maybe I'm not getting the nuances, but it seems to me that if there's no public option, there's no reform---at least not any kind of reform that could trickle down to a self-employed person who's inurance consist of corporate robbery by company A, or corporate robbery by company B. Now, as you know, I was initially a Hillary supporter, and much of the reason I favored her to Obama was that her health plan seemed clear and inclusive, and Obama's seemed muddled and "optional." His inability to gain support for healthcare hasn't simply been a lack of finding the right soundbite. It's starting to seem that, at core, they guy really isn't all that committed to universal coverage, or anything that even approaches real cost control. There's a big difference between compromising and collapsing. I hope his week at Martha's Vinyard will make him come back a new man (meaning one who's grown a pair.) Did you read Paul Krugman's column in the NYTimes yesterday? I thought he was dead on. Seems to me that the whole "granny killing" notion could have been nipped in the bud by pointing out all the medicare grannies (such as my 90 year old mother) who have been extremely well cared for with far better health care than those of us under the private system.
